Why Children Need Us Most During the Holiday Season
Christmas is for everyone, but it has always belonged to children -Unknown Author
Larry Wilde reminds us to “Never worry about the size of your Christmas tree. In the eyes of children, they are all 30 feet tall.” Wilde is expressing something deep here; he means that a child evaluates the world not by quantity, but by meaning. The tree is not about luxury; it is about presence. What matters most is the feeling of belonging, the sense that someone is thinking about them. Moreover, the values we associate with the holidays; kindness, generosity, and goodwill, do not depend on the date only. They are attitudes we can choose to practice at any moment, and their impact is strongest when they reach children who need stability and encouragement. When we support a child during this season, we do not only follow a tradition; we reinforce a way of caring that is valuable and can continue throughout the year.
This is where our role, both as a broader society and as SOS Children’s Villages in particular, becomes especially important. We believe that support during the holidays is not only about seasonal giving. It is an action that protects children from feeling lonely, unseen, or anxious. At a time when loneliness can be harmful, our mission is to help children feel valued by a wide circle of people, to feel part of a second family, by providing security, daily support, and consistent attention.
Through this care, children under the care of SOS Children’s Villages understand that they matter, that their story is important, and that there are adults committed to their future. You too can join our mission; with the following link “SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGES” ARMENIAN CHARITY FOUNDATION you can become a part of our SOSfamILY. And please remember that the smallest contributions make a big difference.
